RIP Mow

As if things haven’t been crazy enough around our house(Bubb’s accident, my Uncle Guy’s heart attack), my older sister’s cat, who had been living with my parents since Sarah found out she was expecting, died yesterday after being attacked by a dog the night before.

Mama rescued the cute little orange kitty from the pool when he was a baby and Sarah adopted him as her own. She took him to Statesboro with her during college and brought him back to Ashburn after graduation. He was her evil kitty. My Daddy has even gotten attached since he’s been at their house, so it’s been rough around there.

Good times ahead…

A few months ago a dear friend, Julia, mentioned to me an idea of keeping her precious son, Nate who is three. Of course I was ECSTATIC about the idea of being able to spend all summer with her and her beautiful baby boy! I knew this would mean leaving everything I have ever known(Small town, South Georgia) and stepping out of my comfort zone but after much consideration I have decided that it will be worth it to leave my job at Sears and move to North Georgia to be their live-in nanny for the summer!

I fell heads over heels over Nate when I kept him two summers ago when they lived in Tifton!  I had a blast getting to know him and watch him grow as well as getting to know his parents Julia and Scott and the rest of their families!

Here is a picture of me and precious Nate from the first time I kept him!

He definitely had me wrapped! Who could resist that smile?

Here are some pictures from when Mama and I made a trip to visit Julia and Nate in December. Sorry for bad quality cell phone pics!

And here are some pictures stolen from Julia’s facebook page. This photographer is amazing! I’ve not met her personally but love all of the pictures she took of Nate! Visit her Facebook page here!

Look at that handsome little MAN and his beautiful Mommy!

Needless to say, I’m sure you’ll have to drag my hiney back down to South Georgia this fall to finish up this last year of school because I’m not going to want to leave these two sweeties!

It’s been a wild weekend

This weekend was a whirlwind of events!

This weekend consisted of a bunch of barbecue and fire ants(not real ones PTL!)! My small town hosts the Fire Ant Festival every fourth weekend in March. There are many cute events held annually including the Strawberry Cookoff sponsored by Calhoun Produce,, a Fly-in in which children and adults are invited to visit our small airport and see the planes and go for a short ride over Turner County, a lip sync contest, health fair, and 5K run. It's been estimated that our small town of roughly 5,000 brings in 25,000 people! That’s quite a feat for such a small town! Learn more about our Fire Ant Festival here.

My Bubb cooked in the barbecue competition and was a trooper for just having surgery on Monday and only being able to use one hand!  His team has a catchy name too, they call themselves the Flyin’ Swine Smokers. He of course had some awesome friends and a great brother-in-law to keep him company and provide some extra hands! They stayed up all night Friday night tending to the scrumptious barbeque smoking away on the smoker and it paid off! They won third in sauce out of 20-something teams. This is their first competition and they were only behind the two teams that tied for first and second by .3 pts! Below are some pictures of some of the chicken they entered in the competition.

Here are a few snapshots my sister took and posted to her photography page.

Yummy BBQ chicken from the Flyin’ Swine Smokers cooking team.

Awesome fireworks show on Friday night!

Some yummy entries from the Fire Ant Festival Strawberry Cookoff! They did a great job of incorporating the ant theme, even though this is not required!

5K and fun run!

This calls for a great weekend for our little town!
